As I delve further into the waters of wedding photography (I now have a handful of weddings under my belt–yay!) I’ve been super excited to share the images from this styled wedding photography shoot with all of you! The idea began as a collaborative effort between me and my good friend (and fellow photographer) Antonina Mamzenko, and was a ton of work but also a ton of fun and allowed us to work with some fantastic wedding vendors to pull everything together. The inspiration for this shoot was seeded in fascination with the British “high tea” culture, having lived in London as an expat for the last couple of years. However, unlike the common traditional, and often “stuffy” tea parties associated with British high society, we wanted to create something a bit more of a modern, fun, and fresh for this shoot.
We chose to use many vintage elements in a modern way — fun mismatching antique furniture and china combined alongside informal rustic detail and a bright and playful color palette. Instead of a grandiose formal venue typically associated with high tea, we chose a wild open field; instead of perfectly tailored and coordinated dresses we chose mismatched designer gowns and an exquisitely elegant and relaxed Alfred Angelo piece for the bride. Braiding in the hair added a touch of bohemian and the exotic hand made hair pieces were tempered by the use of pearls as a nod to the traditional.
A naked vanilla sponge cake alongside a “tea bar” perfectly suited our rustic setting, and roses, dahlias and hydrangeas in floral centerpieces added plenty of color. The hair and make-up team worked hard to create a unique look for each of our models, using elements of both the latest trends and a touch of 1920s Hollywood glamor.
Anyway, here are my favorite of my shots from the day– Enjoy!
