Hi everyone! Today I’m happy to share the second of two blog posts from this gorgeous pregnancy photography session in London. As a reminder (in case you missed the first blog post) and are wondering why I’m blogging twice about the same session–it’s because during this session we decided to create two distinctly different styles of maternity images and I wanted to take the opportunity to explain both styles to my audience. While the first set of images could be classified as “lifestyle” pregnancy photos, the second set of images as seen below would be classified as boudoir pregnancy photography– characterized as being more intimate, usually of the mother to be by herself, and unclothed. The focus of a boudoir session are the beautiful lines of a changing pregnant body. They tend to have a bit of a fine art feel and many times my clients use these photos as artwork in private areas of their home. While I love the playfulness and sweetness of lifestyle images, I also love the sensual and intimate images that are created during a boudoir session. You don’t have to be a professional model to look great in these photos, although to give confidence to a mother (who is about to strip naked, afterall) and make sure they feel as beautiful as they can, I do encourage my clients to have hair and makeup done prior to the shoot if they are up for it! For someone considering booking a maternity session with me–fret not! I give a ton of direction in my sessions so that you know you are doing exactly what you should be doing, and are never feeling awkward or wondering “am I doing this right”. Also, although it seems whenever this topic comes up in conversation with clients, that the first response it something self deprecating like “I could never possibly do that–I’m huge” (which is a topic I’d love to tackle and take down in another discussion), my experience is that a big round belly is actually very flattering because it changes the proportions of how the rest of your body is viewed (ie your arms look a lot slimmer when you have an enormous belly protruding–everything is relative, ladies!) So which do you prefer?? I like both for different reasons and I wouldn’t personally let a pregnancy pass without doing both. It’s such a short but incredible moment in a woman’s life, why not document it with images you will have and treasure forever?
